Arkansas State University Flute Logo

The Arkansas State University Flute Studio is a diverse group of flutists and piccolo players, including music majors in our Music Performance, Music Education, and Bachelor of Arts degree programs, as well as non-music majors in programs across the University.

The A-State Flute Program empowers flutists with the skills they need to succeed in a wide variety of musical situations and career paths. We pride ourselves on being a supportive group of musicians who encourage each other to grow and improve!

We hold flute studio classes once a week, in which we host guest artists, perform for one another, rehearse small flute ensembles, and discuss flute-related topics like tone, practice strategies, musician wellness, performance skills, and instrument maintenance.

Students have the opportunity to collaborate with other musicians and perform in concert bands, orchestra, marching band, flute ensemble, and mixed-instrument chamber groups.

Flute Instructor Bio

Dr. Stephanie Hoeckley is a versatile soloist, chamber musician, orchestral player, and music educator. Her artistry has been described as “traditionally adventurous” because she enjoys performing traditional works and unconventional modern works with extended techniques. She is in her element when taking creative risks, performing new compositions, and showing the community how captivating and deeply varied classical music can be.

Stephanie is a sought-after clinician at music conferences and clinics across the United States due to her unique and engaging workshops, expertise as a teaching artist, and contagious enthusiasm. She has presented workshops for organizations such as the Texas Flute Society, Florida Flute Association, Southeast Michigan Flute Association, Arizona Flute Society, and the Musician Enrichment Foundation. She is also the former Adjunct Flute Instructor at Phoenix College in Phoenix, Arizona. An advocate of mental and physical health, she teaches her students how to use body awareness, performance psychology, and music gamification to help classical musicians stay happy and healthy while striving for excellence.

As an active freelance musician, Stephanie has performed at the National Flute Association’s Annual Convention and the Flute Society of Washington’s Mid-Atlantic Convention. She has also performed with the West Valley Symphony, Symphony of the Southwest, and the Chandler Symphony, and was a founding member of the Ocotillo Trio, a flute duo with piano that performs works of living female composers like Yuko Uebayashi. Her chamber music experience includes performances with the Mill Ave Chamber Players wind quintet and the Arizona Musicfest Wind Quartet, an educational outreach ensemble that performed across the Phoenix Metropolitan area.

Stephanie Hoeckley received both a DMA and MM in Flute Performance from Arizona State University and holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Performance from the University of Central Florida. Her primary teachers include Elizabeth Buck, Carol Wincenc, and Nora Lee Garcia.
