Level Up Your Playing
As musicians, it can be difficult to gauge our progress when we improve a little bit every day. But in the Colorful Clef Flute Studio, you’ll learn how to recognize and appreciate your improvement every day!
You will track your progress, build confidence, and watch your flute skills soar to new heights by engaging in the Level Up Challenges! These challenges will help you learn concepts, build helpful habits, and maximize your abilities.
Upgrade Your Practice Tools and Gear
There is nothing harder than trying to practice without a strategy or game plan. Students will collect practice techniques and time management tools AND learn how to best use them to overcome any practice obstacle!

5.
Solve Puzzles and Learn to Solve Musical Mysteries
Creative problem solving is one of a musician’s most important skills because we encounter puzzles in each and every practice session!
How do you know you’ve found a puzzle? You might think, “Huh…Why is that happening?” or “Why can’t I play this rhythm yet?” But never fear, no puzzle is unsolvable!
In flute lessons, I teach my students how to identify problems effectively and how to solve them with creativity, logic, and persistence!
Discover and Develop Your Unique Voice
Music is so much more than the notes and rhythms on the page. It’s creative, expressive, and deeply personal. I believe in helping flutists discover and develop their unique voices and communicate their love of music through the flute.

Organize Your Quests
Any successful musician needs goal-setting and time management skills to make efficient progress at home between lessons! We will set long-term goals and break them down into step-by-step processes that make big goals easy to manage!
When we create your customized practice map, you’ll feel confident that you’re on track to seize the music opportunities that fire you up!
Mix It Up with Monthly Events
Each month has a fun new theme that helps keep weekly lessons new and interesting! Students never get bored because every month, there are specialized topics to learn about or new challenges to embark upon!
Students are also encouraged to participate in exclusive workshops designed to maximize performance and mindset skills!

Navigate the Musical World with an Enthusiastic and Knowledgeable Guide
I have 10+ years of teaching experience, a Doctorate in Flute Performance, and a lifetime of enthusiasm for music! I’ll help you navigate the world of classical music and cheer you on as you reach for the stars!
P.S. This is me and my mom! She’s learning to play the flute! 😀
This is an inclusive and diverse studio, and I love working with all kinds of people! I’m sensitive to and appreciative of many different learning styles.
I teach students who want to play at a high level and are dedicated to practicing regularly between lessons. Practicing between lessons is expected because there is no growth without personal practice!
With lessons, you’ll make faster progress by avoiding common practice and performance issues that students often develop when practicing without a teacher!
The game elements that supplement my teaching in lessons make the high-level aspects of being a musician more healthy, positive, and fun. They’re specifically designed for high school students and adults!
If you have college or music career aspirations, I’m the teacher for you! I spent 12 years studying music in college, have adjudicated dozens of college music auditions, and have a thorough understanding of what college professors and professional musicians are looking for in a student and colleague. (However, you do not need to plan to major in music to take lessons with me!)
Whether you want to get into the Arkansas All-Region or All-State Honor Band, perform in the perform in the Arkansas Youth Symphony Orchestra, major in music performance, music therapy, or music education, or get into the top ensemble at your school, I’d love to help you get there!
What do you dream of doing or playing? Let’s make it happen!
I primarily work with students ages 14+ because I think students this age and older often need help reconnecting with curiosity and exploration, two skills that are essential for performing at a high level, and being a happy, successful musician!
Musicians often believe that being overly-critical and hyper-focusing on mistakes is the only way to have high standards and improve. The ugly truth is… This mindset degrades our confidence, restricts how much we can enjoy music, and severely limits our performance ability. I guide students away from this mindset.
I’ll show you how to address mistakes and work towards peak performance in a healthy way, which helps you become a stronger player!

I teach in-person and online flute lessons in the Fine Arts Center on the Arkansas State University campus! Room 251
Private Flute Lessons (Online + In-Person) – One-on-one lessons are the best way to get personalized feedback and guidance! I will assign music, exercises, and practice homework designed to best help you reach your goals.
When You Need ‘Em Lessons – If regular lessons aren’t an option, you can schedule occasional lessons to help prepare for auditions, performances, or band playing tests!
Music Theory Lessons – Individual or group lessons. Great for future music majors and students taking AP Music Theory!
Online Lessons – Want lessons from the comfort of your own home? Not located in Arkansas? No problem! I also offer online flute lessons via FaceTime, Skype, Zoom, and Facebook Video Chat.
The most useful lesson length lesson depends on your level, goals, and how quickly you’d like to improve! 60-min lessons help more experienced students improve the most because we can cover multiple pieces and topics in one lesson. (This fast-tracks your progress!)
60-min lessons are best for high school students and intermediate/advanced players that would like to improve quickly. The time also allows for flexibility and variety in the lesson material!
Students are encouraged to participate in our studio chamber ensembles! These are important because musicians develop different skills when we collaborate in a small ensemble setting vs. a large ensemble with a director (like band or orchestra).
Interested students can join a chamber ensemble that rehearses weekly and gives performances once or twice a semester. The group can be a duo, trio, quartet, quintet, etc. The size of these groups varies with the number of students interested each semester. (Invite your friends from band to join a chamber group with you!)
If you aren’t ready to join a chamber ensemble just yet, everyone has the opportunity to play in the Colorful Clef Flute Choir for our Winter and Spring recitals!
Yes, I offer all kinds of music services to meet your needs!
Chamber Music Coaching Sessions (In-person and online) – Do you play in a chamber group? I’m happy to coach your group and give you feedback so you can improve the precision, cohesiveness, and musicianship of your ensemble.
High School Flute Sectionals (In-person and online) – I will visit your band classes, instruct your flute students, and help them improve their fundamentals and band music!
College Masterclasses, Seminars, and Recitals (In-person and online) – I love working with college students! I’d be thrilled to be your guest artist and present masterclasses, recitals, and seminars on flute topics, musician wellness, and gamification!
Church and Community Performances – Looking for a flutist to perform in your community or for your church? Please contact me!
Lessons are an investment in your (or your child’s) musical future, and I do not take that investment lightly!
